Need a Lift?

Does it seem that your cheeks and jowls are heading south?    Are you finding that the tight jawline that you had when you were young is kind of droopy now?  Are your eyes droopy and sad?   Do your eyebrows sit too low now causing everyone to think that you're mad about something all the time?  Are your lips thinned to the point of being thin lines on your face?  Do you have brown spots and discolorations on your skin?   Is your skin dull and lifeless looking?  Do you seem to have more lines and creases in your face every time you look in a mirror?   Does your neighbor who is your same age look 10-15 years younger?   Well, don't just throw in the towel!   There are things that can be done for all of the above conditions.   Some procedures, admittedly, are quite expensive, but there are some simpler things that can really make quite a marked improvement.    It won't fix everything---but what a boost you can get from just having even one thing improved!   The best way to see what can give you "the biggest bang for you buck"  come see us and get some answers.   You may not even know what you'd like to improve, but getting some answers can be very helpful.  Maybe you would just want to do one thing, like a laser resurfacing, maybe you would like to do a combination of procedures.    Answers are empowering.    Come on in.

Sad Eyes

Do people ask you if you're sad?   Do they tell you that you look tired?  Do you wonder why?   It may be because your eyelids are drooping causing you to have a sad or unhappy look about you--even when you're actually feeling pretty good about life.    An upper eyelid blepharoplsty can take the heaviness out of the upper lids and make you look more refreshed and happier and can sometimes be paid for by insurance.   Call for some details as there is some fine print--as there always is when you get insurance involved with anything.   Start the year looking younger and happier    Upper eyelids can be done in the office under local anesthesia.   Sound intriguing?  Give us a call.

What a Woman Wants

Though a scarf and some fuzzy slippers are okay gifts, what many women really would die over would be a gift certificate to have something at Dr. Sellers office or at the Spa..   Now, you  have to be a little careful about this kind of thing.   I once had a neighbor who gave his wife an Ab roller for Christmas because she was always asking him if she "looked fat".  He thought that he'd been quite clever, however it was not well received.  The resulting "cold war" went on for months.   But, if your wife has talked about a breast augmentation for months and you've talked about doing something "someday", perhaps this would be a great opportunity.   Call and get some details.   Maybe just a gift certificate for  the Spa would be a great idea.  It beats another sweater, every time.

The Holidays are Here!

This is a great time to sit still for a minute and take a deep breath and evaluate  just what you want out of the holidays this year.  Can you even remember what anyone gave you for Christmas last year?    Unless it was a two week trip to Moscow you probably can't.   So don't worry yourself sick over getting everybody an gift.   Remember it truly is the thought that counts.   (with in reason, of course)  Friends and family, neighbors, are the things that count.

Another thought:   Commit right now to not gaining any weight this season.    It is absolutely possible to go back to work on January 2 the same weight you are today.   It takes a little self control and some planning but, it will be so worth it in the end.     That extra 10 pounds that so many just accept will happen are terribly discouraging and often, a permanent state.   And now's  no time to slack off on that excercise program!  Enjoy the holiday season but remember that a little planning can make all the difference.

Christmas is upon us!

'Tis the season.   You know what makes a terrific Christmas gift?   Just about any treatment from the Spa! Whether it's a relaxing deep facial, or a IPL laser for skin clarity, or a hydrafacial for deep cleaning and exfoliation or even laser hair removal--all would be excellent ideas.    Whether it's for a friend, or a Mother in law (let's face it, that's a tricky gift to buy) or your Mom or Sister or a co-worker, everyone loves to be pampered.   Call now (801-884-9934) and let Courtney our master aesthetician give you some ideas.  Not only is it something that would be really appreciated, it's really easy, too.

Flat Tummies Rock!

Remember when you were 16 years old and you went to the pool and your tummy was taut and flat and you were comfortable in your skin?   Remember not worrying about who might see you in that two piece suit or even worse who might not see you in that suit?
Now, flash forward 10-20 years--is that pool experience still as much fun?  For most of us, time and child birth has taken a toll on the contour of our tummies.      Even if you weigh the same as you did in high school, it's just not in the same place.   Sometimes abdominal skin can resemble bread dough--good in the bakery, not so much on our bodies.   But, do not despair.   There are things that can be done.  Tummy tucks, body lifts and liposuction can take you back to the good old days.   You owe it to yourself to get your questions answered and determine what can be done.   Don't wait.   We're all getting older every minute.

Breast Augmentation

Are you really tired of having to buy a fully padded bra in order to have some shape?    There are few really cute padded bras out there.    And then there are times that wearing an even beautiful, sexy bra isn't appropriate--or desireable ( You know what I mean)   Breast augmentation can give a woman a new confidence and feeling of being sexy and beautiful with or without that bra.  Implants come in a myriad of sizes and we work really hard to fit you with the exact size that will balance your hips to your upper body and give you a lovely balanced profile, which actually makes you look thinner.   Clothes fit better.   Clothes are more comfortable and you actually have more choices when you have that  balanced shape.   Swim wear becomes a whole new world.   If you've ever thought about it, you ought to at least get your questions answered and find out if Breast Augmentation is appropriate for you.

Women's cancer reconstruction rights

Did you know that in 1998, the United States Legislature passed the Federal Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act.  It stipulates that insurance companies must pay for breast reconstruction post mastectomy for breast cancer.  It also provides that the insurance must pay to bring the contralateral breast in to symmetry with the reconstructed breast.   Also, all complications associated during all steps of the mastectomy and reconstruction process including lymphodema must be covered.   What a great thing this is for women's health.  Prior to this legislation, insurance companies sometimes refused to pay for the reconstruction deeming it cosmetic in nature.  And  even now many women are unaware that this option exists.  You can google "The Federal Woman's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998" if you want more details.

No sunshine and sun screen?

Don't forget.   Even though we're entering that time of year when we can go days without seeing a sun beam, it is still impertive to apply sunscreen every day.   Think of it as your daily medicine.    Don't argue with yourself about whether there's really enough UVB and UVA rays to worry aobut, just put the sunscreen under your makeup and go.   It really will make a huge difference in your skin.

Breast Reductions and Insurance

Did you know that things have changed in the insurance world in relation to breast reduction surgery?    Twenty years ago it was fairly uncommon for an insurance company to pay for this surgery--almost all of them considered it cosmetic and refused to pay for it.   Most insurers have modified their stance in the last few years.   Most now recognize that for many women who suffer from huge, pendulous breasts with their myriad of associated discomforts and problems the only solution is breast reduction.   And it's a wonderful solution.  I don't think I've ever heard a post breast reduction patient have anything but high praise for the surgery.   Gone are the back, neck and shoulder pains--gone are the headaches and expensive, industrial strength bras (which do little to actually help the problem).  So, if you've needed breast reduction, but have been concerned that the insurance wouldn't pay for it, or if you may have been denied authorization several years ago, you might try applying again.    Perhaps your insurance company is one of those who have changed their position on breast reductions.  You never know unless you ask!

Breast Cancer and Reconstruction Options

I don't think that there's anything more frightening and life changing for a woman than to be diagnosed with breast cancer.    It seems that we are in the midst of an epidemic.     With very few exceptions, everyone is affected in one way or another by this terrible disease.   Whether it's a teacher, Mom, Sister, Friend, relative or zumba instructor, we all know some one who has gone through treatment for beast cancer.   I feel for anyone that is facing this challenge in their life.

One thing I would suggest though, after a decision has been made about lumpectomy vs. mastectomy, etc. that you take a deep breath and take the opportunity before the surgery to consult a board certified plastic surgeon about your options for reconstructive breast surgery.     It is often done at the same time as the cancer surgery.   There are a myriad of options.   Though this is a time of almost mental paralysis, you owe it to yourself to find out what options are available to you.   Some procedures are easier and more aesthetic if done at the same time.   If you are having chemo and /or radiation treatment, they can sometimes affect the timing of the reconstruction.   Your plastic surgeon will work with your oncologist to make your health and reconstruction work together to get you the best, safest , most optimal result.

To anyone facing this challenge, good luck to you.  Hopefully, someday soon they'll have a medication or treatment that will spare anyone else from having to go through the challenges of  a breast cancer diagnosis.

Full Face Laser Resurfacing

Is your skin dull ?  Do you have a lot of unevenness and discolorations?   Are you starting to get some fine lines and crepiness in your cheeks?   Is there a network of fine lines around your mouth and eyes?  If you are experiencing any of these aging changes in your face you might look into laser resurfacing.   There are a thousand different lasers out there.   Many tout no down time or discomfort.   Those lasers also give minimal result.  If you really want to have the dramatic change in your skin that makes it smooth, even and young again, then you need the big gun.   The CO2 laser resurfacing does require down time.   We say that you need about 2 weeks to recover enough to put on some good cover-up makeup and get back in to life.  You have to weigh the down time against the result.  And the results are amazing! Many of the lesser strength lasers require little or no down time, but several treatments are required and the result will never even begin to equal one treatment with the CO2 laser.   Come in and get some answers to your questions and find out if a CO2 laser resurfacing treatment would benefit you.

Facelifts and violins

I love the sound of a well played violin.   It is so beautiful and moving.   A gifted artist can make almost make you weep with the emotion they can emote from that instrument.  However, there is nothing more painful than listening to someone who plays poorly.  I know everyone has to start somewhere, but it's painful for the listener none the less.  Facelifts are like violins.   A faelift that is done skillfully  is a masterpiece.   The improvement is subtle yet noticable.    It looks natural and youthful.  A facelift done poorly by someone with limited training or experience can be overdone and "windblown".   Yes, the skin is tight and the wrinkles are gone, but the result is not aesthetically pleasing.   Most 55 year old women don't want to look 20,  (that's a little freaky) they just want to look radiant and youthful and the best that they can look for being  50'ish.  A facelift needs to be enough, but not too much.   It needs to be a change, but not make one unrecognizeable.  It takes a surgeon that is well trained and experienced.  ( a certain artistic ability is a real plus)   Look for someone that is board certified and  a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.   Then you know that they have been trained in all aspects of cosmetic surgery and have spent years perfecting their skills.

Skin Care Products

All women use some kind of products on their skin.   It is amazing the difference that one can see in the quality of a person's skin that has been well cared for and protected and someone who has just let nature take it course.   Genetics influence a lot of things about us, but, how we care for our skin can also have a huge influence on how our skin looks as we age.   Everyone (men included) should have a good regimen of cleansing, moisturizing and sunscreening.    This is just a bare minimum.   There are lots of other products for different problems such as acne prone skin, extra dry skin, discolorations etc.  It's never too late or too early to start.    There are some wonderful products now that have retinol, glycolics, peptides, etc.   Drug store products have limitations on how strong they can be.   Dr. Sellers carries the Skinceuticals line of skin care products.   When you meet with one of our aestheticians, they can analyze your unique situation and recommend product that will help you reach your goals.   You're going to spend money on a product anyway, why not get something that is prescription strength.   You will be so glad as time goes on that you took care of your skin.   Don't forget the sunscreen!   Use it every single day.   Think of it as you would your diabetes medicine.   Don't even think about it---just put it on every morning--no matter what the weather is.   You'll be glad you did.

Breast augmentation

Most women are rather conservative and would prefer not be famous for their bust size.   They don't want to be "that woman ...you know, the one with the great big chest".   Most women just want to balance out their hips and have that hourglass shape. n    Many women who have had children just want to have their breasts back--the ones they had before childbirth and nursing.  Whatever your goals, breast augmentation with or without a breast reshaping is a wonderful option.  Lets face it, padded bras and even bra inserts are a nusance.    And sometimes it's very freeing and confidence boosting to not have to be wearing your bra to have some shape.  This surgery can give your self esteem a real boost.  It's worth looking in to.

Thinner thighs and world peace

Isn't it the most discouraging thing ever to have lost  10 pounds and be almost at your ideal weight and still have your thighs rubbing together when you walk?    Still have those saddlebags on the outsides of your thighs?  It's enough to  make one want to weep.   That's why liposuction is my favorite cosmetic surgery.   When you take the fat from a specific target area even a very small amount, like a pound or two, can make a HUGE difference.   If you lost 2 pounds on a diet, no one would ever be able to tell.   But if you take that same two pounds off your inner thighs--WOW--the change is amazing.   It's worth looking in to.   At least come get your questions answered.   (I  have no answer for the world peace thing....)

Laser resurfacing

Now that the summer's winding down and the sun's not so direct and hot, it's a great time to have that full face laser resurfacing.    Any time you have a laser you need to be very careful about the sun--using sunblock and sunscreen religiously for at least 6 months and hopefully the rest of your life.   (Sun damage is the number one factor in skin damage)  But, the fall and winter are great times to have that resurfacing done.   If you do it now you will look fabulous for the holidays.  Don't put it off.    For the rest of your life, your skin will always look better than it would have if you adn't done it.

Also, really think about the skin care products that you put on your face.   They can make a tremendous difference in the quality of your skin over the years.   Products like retinols, hydroquinones, glycolics, peptides, hyaluronic acid etc. are all things that can help your skin.    You're going to put something on your face--why not come talk to one of our aestheticians and find out what would be best for your skin.

Long lucious lashes

Have you tried Latisse yet?    It's the new prescription strength solution that you paint on the base of your upper lashes each night before bed that grows thicker, fuller, stronger, darker more wonderful lashes.   We've all been trying it here in our office for about the last 3 months and we're all sold!   It really works.   It's wonderful.   I don't know of anyone yet that's been using it that hasn't been thrilled with the results. This isn't someting that you can get at the local Walmart.   It needs to be purchased through a physician.   It comes in two sizes now.   It used to come only in the 30 day supply, but just recently Allergan has come out with a bottle that is a 10 weeks supply.  Either way, it's great.   If you want more information or have questions you can go to the Latisse website or just call our office and talk to one of us who have tried it.   We'll be happy to tell you of our experience.   See ya soon.

Kids Back to School!

Isn't it nice to get the kids back to school and get back in to some routine?  Now's a great time to drop back and do something for you.   Fall's a great time for a breast augmentation or  lift,  or liposuction, or tummy tuck or actually any kind of cosmetic surgery.   Do it now and feel and look fabulous for the holidays.  Remember the final result from surgery takes a little time  (swelling, bruising, etc.)  to reach.   Don't wait too long. Do it now.  The first step is the consultation.  Give us a call.

I'M NOT MAD!!!!

Do you often get comments like "didn't you sleep well last night?"   or "Are you mad or upset with me?" Or   "You look like you need to get more sleep".    Are your eyes giving people the wrong impression?   Maybe you should look in to having your eyelids lifted.    They can make you look more relaxed and less stressed.  (even if you aren't)  Upper eyelids can even be done in the office with some local anesthetic.  Check it out.

Not too early!

Can you believe that the summer's almost gone?   Kids will be back in school within the next couple of weeks.   Doesn't it feel like they just had the last day of school?   And of course all this means is that the holidays are just around the corner---yet again.    Results from surgery usually take a little time for recovery and for the final result to appear.   It is not too soon to start thinking  about that surgery you've wanted to have so that you're "stunning"  by the holidays.   Do not put it off.  Get the process started now.   It's always a good idea to come in for a consultation to find out what procedures, options, etc are available to you to help you reach your goal.   Every one's goals are different.   But, you can't get any answers if you con't come see the Doctor.   Also, beware the internet.   The internet is a valuable tool for information on almost any subject, but remember that there's no one to police the information that anyone puts out there.   It may or may not be factual.   We have been dumb founded  to hear some of the ridiculous things that people tell us that they found on line.   Get the real facts.   Come see Dr. Sellers

IPL--Intense Pulse Light--Try it-you'll like it!

Do you have uneven, spotty skin?   Is your skin dull and sun damaged?   An exciting treatment for that is the Intense Pulse Light laser.   The treatments are done usually in groups of three spaced about 3 weeks apart.   It's amazing what it can do for clearing up those distracting brown spots.   The laser penetrates into the lower layers of the skin and attack the melanin (which makes the spots in the first place). For the next 24 hours following the treatment the brown spots darken, and then percolate up to the surface of the skin.   About a week after the laser you can have a microdermabrasion and buff off the spots.   Voila!  Clearer, more even skin tone.    The aestheticians in our office would be very happy to tell you more about IPL and would be happy to schedule you    Treat yourself-you'll be glad you did! Give it a try.

Insurance and Breast Reduction Surgery

Did you know that there has been quite a shift in thinking at Insurancre companies in the last 10 years or so about breast reduction surgery?   When I started about 25 years ago, it was fairly uncommon for an insurance company to pay for reduction mammoplasty.   And those that finally pre authorized the surgery made you jump through all kinds of hoops to get there.     Many required physical therapy, chiropractic, specially made bras, 6 months conservative treatment with anti-inflammatories, special anti-fungal cream used on the rash under the breasts and the list goes on.  Many insurance companies today are finally accepting that the only treatment that works for problems associated with large, pendulous breasts is to reduce the breasts!   (Radical thinking)   So, if you've tried to get a breast reduction paid for before through your insurance company and just gave up, you might try again.   Each company has their own set of criteria for the surgery, but most are more agreeable than they were even 5 years ago.    Breast eduction surgery is universally praised as "the best thing I've ever done".   It's worth looking in to.

Skin Cancer Alert!

Are you of the generation that never heard of sun block when you were a teenager?  Back in the "day" we used to smear on crisco oil or baby oil and lay out on the roof to see just how burned we could get.   The browner the better.  Well, now we sun worshippers are paying the price for our foolishness.   Studies say that skin cancers now are often a result of a sun burn 20 years previously.   So, the most important thing you can do is be vigilent.   Routinely study or analyze your moles and skin.   Do you have a mole that's changing color or shape?   Do you have one that itches?    Do you have a new "thing" on your skin that has just appeared recently?  Do you have a sore that just never seems to heal and cracks and bleeds constantly?   If you have any of the above you should see a dermatologist soon.    Let him analyze your skin and see if there's anything troubling to him.   Don't just wait until it becomes a huge problem.    Catching skin cancers early leads to easier cures.   Don't put it off.    Patrol your moles today!

Have you sunscreened today?

There are many different factors  that can affect our skin--pollution, humidity , genetics, lifestylle, bad habits.   But the one thing that is a common element for all of us is damage from the sun.  The most important thing you can do for you skin is use sun screen daily.    Don't look at the cloud cover to determine whether you'll wear it or not, just put it on every day.   Think of it as medicine.   Protecting your skin from both UVB and UVA rays will pay huge dividends in the texture of your skin.   You're never too old or too young to start.   There are some great ones now that are made to put on under makeup.   They don't cause your makeup to slide off your face like the old kind did.  If you haven't been a sunscreen wearer in the past get started today.   It's truly the kindest, smartest thing you can do for you skin for now and the future.

Surgery for the Soul!

A patient came in the other day for her final check up.   She  had a body lift and liposuction of her torso 6 months previously.  In visiting with her it was very obvious that she was not only dramatically different physically, but that she had changed just as much mentally.   She spoke, walked and interacted with much more confidence that she had in the past.   In fact, each of us in the office mentioned that she seemed like an entirely different person than the one we met on her first visit.  She says that it's been a life changing experience for her.    She loves her "new" body,  but even more enjoyable is the new confidence and appreciation that she has for life.   She is comfortable exercising now.  (She has even signed up at a local gym and has her own personal trainer--something that she would never even considered before).   She feels more attractive and outgoing.   She now feels comfortable speaking to people that she might have avoided before.  And her relationship with her husband was good before, but great now! This patient is not an isolated example, either.    Many of our patients report similar changes.    If you've ever thought about cosmetic surgery, at least come see Dr. Sellers and explore your options.   Time will continue to pass whether you do something or not.   At least find out what's out there!

The Physiology of FAT

How are the results from liposuction different from diet and exercise results?     When we diet and exercise we loose weight from all over our bodies.   Exercise can help to firm up the muscles under the fat.   It is a misconception that exercising one part of the body can make you lose weight from that part of the body though.   There is no amount of leg lifts that will make you lose weight from your thighs if you are genetically pre-disposed to put your weight there.   Most of us have found that when we do lose weight we still maintain the same shape we started with.    For instance, if you are a "pear" shape (genetically programmed to put your extra weight on your thighs and lower body)  even if you lose weight and weigh 110 pounds you will probably still be a basically a "pear" shape.  The marvelous thing about liposuction is that when you remove the fat cells from a certain area they are gone!   We do not make more fat cells we only fill and empty the ones we have throughout our lives. So, if you take a few million fat cells out of an area, you can never regain that same previous shape because the storage units are just not there.   Liposuction can actually "fool Mother Nature".
It is also a falacy that you have to be very close to your ideal weight before you should have anything done.   Lets face it.   Most of us (statistically speaking) will not be successful in the long term with our weight loss.   Studies prove that 95% of the time, within 3 years, people have put back on the weight they have lost--plus more.  Sad statistic, but true.    If the fat cells are gone, though, they can't be re-filled with fat.
If you've wondered about liposuction and how it might help you meet your goals, come see us and get some answers.  At least find out what options are available to you.

Babies and Breasts

Having a baby is one of the greatest events in a woman's life.    But, your breasts really pay a price.    Usually, a woman's breasts get larger during pregnancy and larger still while nursing.  After nursing, the breasts most commonly shrink in size to their pre-pregnancy size or more commonly smaller.   There are many exceptions to this rule.  Whatever the size, though, the location has often headed south.   Many women find that their breasts are an okay size, but they are very droopy and unattractive.   Whatever the situation is though, there is a surgery that can help.   Breasts can be lifted, augmented, reduced and made symmetrical.   There are many, many options.    One would be right for you.   Visiting with a Plastic Surgeon trained in all kinds of breast reconstruction procedures can open up a whole new world for you.    Don't wait.

Movie Star eyelashes!

Do you have eyelashes that are few and far between?   Lashes that you need special equipment to see?  So few that you have named them?    You ought to try Latisse by Allergan.    It really is the most wonderful thing to grow and darken lashes that's ever come along.  The girls in the office have been using it for about the last 6 months and we get questions all the time from patients about how they can get long eyelashes, like theirs, too.  You might think it's way too expensive, but it actually works out to about a dollar a day. The results are worth it and it really works.    Call for the details.

Stop Scowling!

Do people sometimes ask you who you're mad at?  When actually you're happy and content and feeling good about life. When you squint are your eyes surrounded by what seems like hundreds of little "smile" lines?  (which are nothing to smile about)  Have you considered Botox?    It's a non-surgical , no downtime, procedure that can make a really nice difference in the lines in your face.    We've all heard the horror stories of the stars who have had so much botox that their faces are smooth, but they look like zombies because there's no animation  in their faces.   Don't panic!   Botox done right, is a wonderful thing.   It can smooth out those scowl lines between your eyebrows that make you look like an "angry bird".   And lessen those lines around your eyes.  You will still have plenty of animation in your face.   You'll just look better and more relaxed.   Look more like you feel.

Protect your face from the sun!

Did you know that the number one thing that you can do to help your face stay young looking  is wearing a broad spectrum sun screen every day?   Even on overcast, cloudy days the sun can still cause microscopic damage to your skin.  Get in the habit of putting suncreen  on every day--don't even think about it--just do it.   Think of it as medicine that must be taken daily.  There are some wonderful ones out there now that work great under makeup.   It used to be that sunscreen made your makeup slide right off your face, but not any more.   Remember, too, that sunscreen needs to be reapplyed.   Many makeup bases now have sun screen in them, but an SPF 15 is not enough to do the job.  Use something in the 30 range to get better protection.   Sun screens that say water-proof are actually just water resistant.    After a lot of water exposure they need to be reapplied.   Also,  a cute hat on a really sunny day is just a fashion statement.  Protect your skin---you'll be glad you did!

LIposuction and swimming pools

Do you always wear a sarong or your husband's t-shirt over your suit?    Not really very glamorous but it does cover up problem areas.   wouldn't it be grand to feel comfortable and confident in you swimming suit?   Liposuction can be done on almost any area of the body.    There are few women alive who wouldn't benefit and love liposuction of their inner thighs.   Not having your thighs rub together is one of the greatest feelings in the world!   It's not too late to have liposuction done now and still have fun in the sun.  Don't suffer through another miserable year by the pool (under your "cover up".)   Consider liposuction.

Breast Augmentation

I don't think that there's anything more important to a woman's sense of confidence in her body image than beautiful, full breasts.     Many women report after having breast augmentation or lift surgery that they feel so much better about themselves now.   They feel more cofident in social situations and are often more willing to try different life experiences.  They enjoy " walking the boulevard" or going to the gym.  They feel more confidence in their clothing.   They find that they even walk different--with their heads high and their shoulders straight.   Most women do not want to be famous for their breasts.   They just want to balance out their hips and look the best they can.  Doctor Sellers is very good at helping you pick the right size implant to accomplish your particular goal.   If you've been thinking about some breast surgery, summer is a great time for it.     Don't wait any longer.    Just do it!

Is Your Surgeon Really Qualified?

When you are considering having surgery, one of the most important factors you should consider is whether your surgeon is trained and board certified.    Unfortunately, in Utah there are many Doctors who advertise that they prform the full array of cosmetic surgeries such as breast augentations, tummy tucks, facelifts, etc. and assert that they are board certified.    And they are board certified, but not in cosmetic surgery.   Many of these  Doctors are board certified in Oral surgery, Family Practice medicine, Internal medicine, or Emergency Medicine.   They have taken a short course in liposuction, or other techniques and now advertise that they are qualified and certified to perform these procedures.   Before having any surgery, just make sure that your Doctor  has the training and experience to handle any complications or problems that may occur.   No one ever expects to have a problem, but they do rarely happen.   And when they do it's comforting to know that your Doc is fully trained and experienced in how to get you through it.

Did you know that there are lending extablishments that focus on lending money for cosmetic procedures?   If you've ever wanted a procedure done, maybe breast augmentation or getting rid of the hanging skin on your abdomen after child bearing, but knew that you couldn't swing the financing all at once, but at a low monthly rate it was possible, you ought to look into financing options.  Go to our web site (sellersplasticsurgery.com) and click on financing and see what's available.   It might be the difference between being able to do it and not being able to.

Can I still nurse after breast augmentation surgery?

One question that we get asked at almost every breast augmentation consultation is "will I be able to breast feed after this surgery?" The breast implants are put almost always under the muscle so that the glands and breast tissue are still completely intact. Therefore, you should be able to breast feed as well as you could before the surgery. (There are a limited number of women that are unable to nurse with or without surgery).

Full face Laser Resurfacing

The one procedure that can turn back the clock for your face and actually change the texture of your skin is the CO 2 laser resurfacing procedure. It's the most agressive of the facial lasers, but it gives you the greatest result as well. You can spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on milder laser treatments and still end up with less improvement than one treatment with the co2 laser. No question about it you look pretty rough for 10-14 days, but the result is well worth the sacrifice. The new skin is smooth and fresh. Come in and see some of our photos that are very helpful in explaining the whole process and the result you can expect.

Eyelids

A patient came in to the office the other day and was very discouraged. She obviously took good care of herself--eating right, exercising, etc. But she said that not a day goes by that someone doesn't ask her if she got any sleep last night. Daily she gets comments about how tired she looks. Her problem is very heavy eyelids that make her look tired and even cranky. It's amazing how refreshed and rested and calm she looks with her lids pulled up. Upper eyelids can even be done in the office. Within a couple of weeks she'll look like she feels.

Do you have heavy eyelids?

Spring is springing

I love spring. It is always so cheering to the spirit to feel the sunshine on your face again after all the cold and clouds of the winter. Even though this winter has been one of the mildest on record--spring is very welcome. With the warmth comes turning our hearts to short sleeves, shorts , tank tops, swimming suits etc. As we don our new apparel we become aware that we may may have some "shape " issues that we've been covering up with heavy sweaters, coats, long sleeved shirts and (heaven forbid) sweat pants. It's not too late to address some of the lumps and bumps through liposuction and tightening, lifting procedures. Come talk to Dr. Sellers about what can be done. (Tax refund special --15% off Doctor fee of one procedure if scheduled and completed by April 30th)

Kids and Tummies

It's a wonderful thing to have a baby. A baby changes your life forever---mentally and physically. It seems like after you've given birth (even if your weight's the same as before) things do not seem to be in the same place. Breasts and tummies are never quite the same again. If your little bundle of joy has given you lots of extra stretchy skin on your tummy or your breasts are empty and droopy : do not despair. There are things that can be done to restore you to your pre-mother shape. Tummy tucks and liposuction are wonderful for giving you your waist back. Breasts can be lifted and shaped. Sometimes a woman needs a breast implant to give her that youthful fullness she misses. Don't be miserable. Check out wht Dr. Sellers could do for you.

Weight loss surgery

Losing a large amount of weight through a bariatric surgery such as lap banding or gastric bypass is an amazing accomplishment. You might be left though, with a problem that you hadn't anticipated, and that is lots of extra skin. Unfortunately losing weight gets rid of excess fat, but doesn't do anything for the extra skin. There are some wonderful surgeries that can be done for drooping abdominal skin, hanging breasts, arm "wings" etc. Something can be done to tighten up almost any part of the body that bothers you. So congratulations on the weight loss, now come see what can be done to finish the project.

Tighten that face and neckline

Have you heard of the Quicklift yet? It's a facelift that's less invasive than a regular facelift. The results are amazing. You can combine it with eyelids or a browlift if you want. Some patients even have a little liposuction of the chin and neck. It's conservative, but very effective. Dr. Sellers would be happy to explain the details and also determine if it's the right thing for you. We've had patients anywhere from 45 to their seventies who have been thrilled with their results. Winter is a great time to have face surgery, because we tend to stay in more anyway. Come see us. We'll give you the facts.

How do you treat your skin?

One of the most important things we can do to stay younger looking longer is to take care of our skin. You ae never too young to start a good cleansing and moisturizing program. Skin products today are light years ahead of products available even 10 years ago. There are vitamin C's and vitamin A's and retinols and antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid and all kinds of chemical peels. Some products are to be used daily and some are used only once a month or even only once or twice. There is a dramatic difference in skin that has been protected and cared for and skin that has been abused. Of course, the most damage comes from the sun. Even in the winter months or on cloudy days the sun still is harmful. One of the most important things anyone can do for their skin is to use sun screen every day. Just make it part of your routine. Don't even think about it, just put it on under your makeup. Everyone over 45 could benefit from some kind of retinol and vitamin C product. These get down in the deep layers and increase cellular production thereby helping prevent wrinkles. Antioxidants help protect from the destruction of free radicals. Come in and talk to one of our master estheticians and learn what you can do to keep your skin it's healthiest. It will pay off big time.

What to do with that tax reund?

Wondering what to do with your tax refund this year? Well, there are probably a lot of things that could be done with it, but a breast augmentation would be an exciting thing to do. It's a great time of year for it, too. If you do it soon, you'll be well healed and in great shape for this year's swimsuit season. Give it some thought.

Give Botox a try!

Have you tried botox yet? If you have people avoiding you because you look like you're going to attack all the time maybe you should look at getting rid of those two deep scowl lines between your eyebrows. Those deep grooves are caused by years of the underlying muscles in that area pulling on the soft overlying skin. Result--deep grooves. Botox in the area can be a miracle in relaxing those muscles and making you look less tense--and less "scowly". Botox injections last for 3-5 months in most people. The usual areas that are injected are between the eyebrows and around the eyes. Try it--you'll like it!

Weight Loss vs. Liposuction

Did you know that we have most of the fat cells we're ever going to have by the time we're 1 or 2 years old? After that we just fill them up with fat or shrink them up when we reduce. Unfortunately, statistics prove that the vast majority of people who lose weight have put it back on (often with additional weight) within 4-5 years. That can be pretty discouraging. While liposuction is not a weight loss plan, it can be a valuable tool in changing your shape. When fat is removed from an area through liposuction, those fat cells are no longer a factor because they are gone. Even if you did gain some weight you will always maintain the new shape because the "storage units" are gone---forever.
Liposuction is the procedure to change the shape that you genetically have been given. So if Mother Nature ordains that you have saddle bags on the sides of your thighs, liposuction can reduce those storage centers changing that particular shape. It's a great procedure---one of the most popular cosmetic procedures preformed in the United States and the World today.

Skin Issues

Is your skin kind of blotchy with uneven skin tone and spots? For almost no down time you might really like an IPL treatment. Intense Pulse Light treatment is a laser treatment where the laser energy penetrates down into the lower levels of the skin and attack the melatonin in the skin. These discolorations then darken and rise to the top where they can be rubbed off with a hydrafacial or a midroderm scrub. This leaves your skin fabulously smooth and clearer. You will look totally refreshed. And who doesn't need som skin spiffing up in the dark of the winter. Give it a try. You'll be very surprized and pleased at how a series of three can make your skin look and feel.
Try it--You'll like it!

Refurbishing your face and eyes

Do you hate having your picture taken? Is it because of your eyes that make you always look so tired? Or maybe it's that jawline that used to be one of your best features and now is droopy and looks like Grandma Evelyn's. Do you have bulging lower eyelids and crepy looking cheeks? Do you just look old and tired? Each one of these things can be addressed by a procedure. Sometimes a Quicklift will give you back your youth and make you look as young as you still feel inside. Maybe even having your upper eyelids done or a laser resurfacing will give you that youthful skin again. Why wait? Winter's a great time to "do things".

The process takes a little while. So call now and get an appointment and let's get underway. It makes all the difference in your confidence level.

Breast Reconstruction

I don't think there's much in life that's more terrifying for a woman than a diagnosis of breast cancer. I can be very frightening. It seems that you are immediately thrown into an arena where everyone is asking you what you want to do, when you want to do it and who you want to do it. Although it is terribly upsetting, a woman would be well served to stop for just a minute and consider what her best options are for after the mastectomy (if that is what is being done) It is very wise to stop for a minute and visit with a plastic surgeon about your options for reconstruction. Many times with the general surgeon working together with the plastic surgeon from the very first , the very best result can be achieved. Know what your options are. Don't panic. Get some information so that you can make the choice that will be best for you. Every woman is unique and your treatment is going to be unique, too.

Though it is an extremely upsetting time, taking a little time to do some research on reconstruction can serve you well in the future.

Well, we hope everyone had a wonderful, peaceful holiday season. Though we enjoy the hustle and bustle of the season, it's nice to get back to a regular routine, too. After the holidays, is a wonderful time to have any kind of cosmetic surgery. Winter weather keeps us indoors more anyway, so now's a great time for procedures like full face laser resurfacings, facelifts and eyelids. It's also the time to have your breasts and body procedures done so you'll be all recovered in time for spring fashions and activities. So, come see Dr. Sellers and get started on your new goals.
