Breast Reductions and Insurance

Did you know that things have changed in the insurance world in relation to breast reduction surgery?    Twenty years ago it was fairly uncommon for an insurance company to pay for this surgery--almost all of them considered it cosmetic and refused to pay for it.   Most insurers have modified their stance in the last few years.   Most now recognize that for many women who suffer from huge, pendulous breasts with their myriad of associated discomforts and problems the only solution is breast reduction.   And it's a wonderful solution.  I don't think I've ever heard a post breast reduction patient have anything but high praise for the surgery.   Gone are the back, neck and shoulder pains--gone are the headaches and expensive, industrial strength bras (which do little to actually help the problem).  So, if you've needed breast reduction, but have been concerned that the insurance wouldn't pay for it, or if you may have been denied authorization several years ago, you might try applying again.    Perhaps your insurance company is one of those who have changed their position on breast reductions.  You never know unless you ask!
