Kenya
Dr. Sellers is going to go for the next two weeks with Operation Smile to Kenya. Operation Smile is an organization that takes volunteer surgeons, nurses and support staff to under privelaged places around the globe to do surgery (mostly cleft lip and palates) on children and sometimes adults that would otherwise go their whole lives without help. Often, local surgeons are trained on the same missions, on the techniques needed to restore "little smiles" to their normal shape and function. This is the 24th mission that Dr. Sellers has been on for Operation Smile. The last several he has gone as Mission Leader, which is quite a responsibility. He has been to many places all over the globe including the Philippines, India, China (several times) , Viet Nam, and Kenya previously. Each trip has it's own unique challenges and rewards. The greatest reward is always the eternal thanks of the parents of these little ones and the timid smiles on those little faces. It's truly a humbling and life changing experience for the surgeon and the patient.
